... on a personal level
Here's how I spice up my life!
Education
I have a background in linguistics and translation. After a BA in translation and interpreting, I chose to continue my education in Britain, where I obtained a MSc (Manchester Uni.) and a PhD (Warwick Uni.), both in Translation Studies. My fascination with words led me to carry out extensive research among the various types of oral narrative (stories, real-life stories and anecdotes such as informal interactions, jokes, etc.), analysing their passage to the written form.
Holism
I have been interested in the growing field of holistic disciplines for so long I can't even say since when exactly. But I can say for certain that I became familiar with and experienced a significant number. Currently I am interested in natural and organic skincare and cosmetic products, as well as complementary medicines, particularly herbal medicine, aromatherapy, nutrition therapies, crystals and flower remedies.
Publishing
I see publishing as a multi-faceted and thought-provoking world that has unveiled itself in its diverse aspects. As well as translating and copy-editing, I had the chance of taking part in the 2008 Frankfurt Book Fair as a foreign rights assistant.
Blogging
Yes, I am a blogger. I like talking about translation, languages, writing, books, and ephemera. In addition to my current blog, you can browse through my previous posts (in English) at eel in the air. I also blog - or rather jolt down notes - in Italian at Brunilda's Posterous. Finally, I'm a regular Italian-language guest blogger (nickname: Brunilda) at Minitrue.
Family history
I am an amateur genealogist and enjoy searching archives, vital records, military records, libraries and wherever the traces of time lead me to.
Fiction
Fiction. Yes indeed... I write short stories! Here you'll find a list of links.
Last but not least... I love cats, books, tea and dark chocolate. And whenever I have some spare time, I oil paint.
